Ancient Indian Treatise on Statecraft
The Arthashastra, attributed to Kautilya (popularly identified with Chanakya, advisor to Chandragupta Maurya), is one of the most comprehensive treatises on statecraft, economics, and military strategy to survive from the ancient world.
Organised into fifteen books (adhikaranas), it covers topics ranging from the duties of a king and the structure of administration, to taxation, foreign policy, law, and the conduct of war — alongside surprisingly granular guidance on espionage, diplomacy, and crisis management.
